“You can use it as an excuse but for me it is in the past and it is good to see the players forget the past because football is in the present, like life”.

“We have forgotten the past”.

Speaking for the first time since his move to north London, Sissoko told Standard Sport: “I came here to help them so I hope we have a great season and finish top of the league”.

“We are up for the challenge, we are always optimistic and believe in our players, so why not go better than last season?” With Saturday’s drubbing at the hands of the rampant Spurs, Stoke have now conceded 10 goals in four matches, with an average of more than three goals a game. What was most important that we start a very hard run of seven games in [23 days] with a win.

“A couple of years ago, if someone would have said to me, “you’ll have 50 Premier League goals for Spurs” I would have taken that quite happily”, Kane told the club’s website.

“”I want to score goals for Spurs…”…”

With Tottenham involved in the Champions League this campaign, the former Hamburger SV and Bayer Leverkusen star is going to get a considerable amount of playing time as the season progresses.

“This was a very tough and very good meeting because it is important now to be focused on this season”.

Reflecting on the performance of Son, who was linked with a move away from White Hart Lane in the summer, Pochettino was understandably “very happy for him” and “very pleased with his performance” as he came in for the rested Erik Lamela.

Hughes was sent to the stands on a miserable afternoon for the Potters after reacting angrily to a yellow card for diving for winger Marko Arnautovic, and the FA could now review footage after he appeared to remonstrate again with Moss after being dismissed by referee Anthony Taylor.
