The Merseyside club have not reported Chelsea to the Premier League, but Martinez believes Terry has broken Premier League guidelines in publicly discussing the Blues’ pursuit of the England worldwide.

“Stones is already a very good player so it will cost a lot of money to get him – even more so because he is English and playing for an English team”.

“Clearly John is one of the outstanding young talents in the squad and you are going to get that sort of interest”.

Roberto Martinez has called out John Terry over the Chelsea defender’s public comments about John Stones.

When asked about the prospect of Chelsea coming back with an improved offer, Martinez said: “You shouldn’t worry about situations you can not control”.

Martinez said: “You know that is illegal, the rules don’t allow you to comment on players that are registered at other clubs in that open manner, that is disappointing”.

On moving forward I still feel that we are short in several areas, including central defence, we’ve let two go and not replaced them, but does Martinez feel that the youngsters are good enough to step up?

The Spaniard said there was no interest in selling Stones, who is contracted until mid-2019.

However there are doubts over two forwards – summer recruit Gerard Deulofeu and Romelu Lukaku, both having had hamstring issues.

Martinez said that he “expectsJohn Stones and Kevin Mirallas to shake off injuries sustained during Duncan Ferguson’s testimonial against Villarreal on Sunday. But we are a bit light and need the right players to help the group.’. He is not for sale – we have said that many times.

Martinez confirmed that Tomas Andrade from River Plate would be joining up with the Blues on loan but would be playing with the academy with a view to a future move.

“Flores has become a very experienced manager and I don’t think he’ll find the British game anything of a surprise to him”.
