Stop destroying our party, John McDonnell says in plea to Labour supporters

Sarah Champion was among 63 MPs to resign from the frontbench less than a month ago as Labour moderates launched a brutal coup against the hard-left leader.

Senior Labour MP Sarah Champion will resume her role on Labour’s front bench as Shadow Home Office Minister.

He added: “Jeremy, of course, always says that he doesn’t condone it but somehow under his leadership – we can’t deny the facts that this wasn’t something that we saw in the Labour Party before Jeremy Corbyn became leader – and it’s now become commonplace in the Labour Party”.

“My office manager has apologised”, McDonnell said about the alleged incident, which Malhotra said amounted to intimidation and harassment of her workers and illegal and unauthorised entry into her Westminster office.

“We hope that others will rejoin the shadow cabinet and get on with the job of opposing Government”, they said.

Before he announced his bid to unseat Mr Corbyn, Owen Smith claimed Mr McDonnell had himself said the party could split.

But a poll of Labour supporters found more than half (54%) would back Mr Corbyn against under a quarter (22%) for Mr Smith.

The Rotherham MP said his refusal to accept a motion of no confidence, backed by 172 of the party’s MPs, showed why his leadership could not continue.

Mr Corbyn’s office and 3rd rail have been contacted for comment.

When asked again if he believed classified documents would reveal the involvement of British intelligence agents in Corbyn’s leadership strife, McCluskey said: “Well I tell you what, anybody who thinks that that isn’t happening doesn’t live in the same world that I live in”.

She has cancelled constituency surgery meetings, a brick was thrown through her office window and her local Wallasey constituency Labour Party has been suspended amid bullying claims.

“Those who voted to leave knew there would be consequences in leaving”.

Ms Malhotra, a former shadow Treasury minister, has lodged a formal complaint with Speaker John Bercow, claiming staff working for Mr Corbyn and Mr McDonnell entered her office in a serious breach of parliamentary privilege.

He served as Shadow Welsh Secretary under Ed Miliband and as Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary in Mr Corbyn’s frontbench team until he resigned last month.

Only 10 per cent thought Mr Smith would win more of these votes.

“I want Owen (Smith) and Jeremy and everybody to say “let’s stop this now”.

Labour whip Conor McGinn, who originally hails from Camlough near Newry, said his under-pressure leader attempted to to use his family to “bully” him into silence.

It comes after more than 40 female Labour MPs wrote to Corbyn earlier this week saying he had failed to do enough to prevent “disgusting” threats against members.
