The “Black Day” declared yesterday by Islamabad “exposes Pakistan’s longing for the territory of Jammu & Kashmir”.

Sartaj Aziz said Pakistan had welcomed the offer of mediation by the UN Secretary General who also took note of the situation and regretted the loss of dozens of lives and injuries to many others. India demands that Pakistan must fulfill the obligation to vacate its illegal occupation of POK.

“It must also stop misleading the worldwide community and Kashmiris through meaningless exercises such as the so-called elections today in POK which Pakistan ironically calls “Azad” (free)”, he said.

Reports state that Saeed also asked the Pakistan government to immediately suspend diplomatic and trade ties with India, expel the Indian envoy and recall its high commissioner from New Delhi.

At least 38 people, according to Singh, have been killed in Kashmir in clashes with security forces during widespread protests that erupted in the valley over the killing of Burhan Wani, a Kashmiri militant belonging to the Hizbul Mujahideen.

“It is not their internal matter because Kashmir issue is recognised under the United Nations”, Aziz said.

Wani’s death has been used by Pakistan at the United Nations and in near-daily statements to accuse India of atrocities in Kashmir.

Following the decision by special meeting of the Federal Cabinet, chaired by the prime minister, Black Day was observed across Pakistan and country’s missions overseas, he added.

‘It’s a disappointing statement because when there was a tragic terrorist attack in Pakistan on the Army School in Peshawar and people were killed, our country unanimously condemned the attackers and extended solidarity to the Pakistani people, ‘ Congress leader Shashi Tharoor told ANI.

The Indian attempts to claim that the deteriorating human rights situation in Indian Occupied Kashmir is an internal affair of India is factually incorrect, legally untenable and indeed a violation of worldwide law and UNSC resolutions, the prime minister stated.

Tens of thousands of demonstrators in cities across Pakistan – Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, Multan, and others – took to the streets on Wednesday to protest against the ongoing violence in the Indian-governed Kashmir.

The meeting unanimously expressed grave concern over the deteriorating situation in the Indian Occupied Kashmir in the wake of the killing of Kashmiri pro-freedom fighter Burhanuddin Muzaffar Wani.
