Store sales save the day for Black Friday
With more people using smartphones, mobile shopping is seeing strong growth this holiday season.

But while more people plan to take advantage of Cyber Monday offers – 122 million, up from 121 million, according to the National Retail Federation – they are not talking about it almost as much.
Cyber Monday still packs the biggest punch in terms of a single online shopping day – for now. During these days, USA retailers saw their sales increasing 9.3 percent over past year.
If sales reach Adobe’s expected $3.3 billion mark, it will be a growth of more than 9% from past year.
On Friday, online sales surged nearly 22% to $3.34 billion, ADI said on its website. One in 10 employers says they’ve fired a worker for shopping online at work. “With the full day total coming in at $3.34 billion, Black Friday may have just dethroned Cyber Monday’s position as the largest online shopping day of the year”.
Mobile accounted for 37 percent of sales through Sunday.
Almost 109 million people shopped from their computers and mobile devices from Thanksgiving Day through Sunday, while about 99 million hit the sales in brick-and-mortar stores, according to a survey from the trade group National Retail Federation. A lot of people buy Christmas gifts for their loved ones on Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
Meanwhile, Adobe Systems Incorporated (NASDAQ: ADBE) 2016 Digital Insights Shopping Predictions released in late October showed that online sales could swell to $91.6 billion this holiday selling season, with $3.36 billion in sales expected to be done on Cyber Monday.
Local companies that sell stationary, socks, soccer gear, fashion apparel, hotel rooms and more posted heavy discounts on their goods from 15 to 50 percent off. Needless to say, some big winners emerged, although ecommerce has apparently begun to encroach upon Black Friday shopping.
There was mixed data on in-store traffic and sales with some sources reporting an initial decline vs. past year and others reporting small in-store gains.
Many stores matched their in-store blockbuster sales with online discounts on Thanksgiving and Black Friday.
