As Black Friday winds down, Austin business owners are gearing up for Small Business Saturday.

Some store owners say they’ll continue their Small Business Saturday deals well into next week.
Small Business Saturday was created in 2010 by American Express to rally support nationwide.
“If you don’t support the small businesses, we won’t be here”, Coleman said.
“Small businesses are vital to our state’s economy, employing almost 70 percent of all working Kansans”, said Governor Brownback. While there are small shops all over Sioux Falls, most are located in downtown.
“When you go to the big stores, you have a lot of wonderful good stuff, but it’s all the same kind of stuff”, explained Oh Fudge owner, Marcie Sullivan.
Deb Strain says, “I think that small businesses have more unique items for friends and family”.
“1 hundred dollars in sales, 68 dollars of that goes back into the community, and so it is so important to keep your money local”.
Some stores ran special promotions to bring in customers on Small Business Saturday. And it should serve as a reminder, to not neglect local stores.
American Express, who founded Small Business Saturday a few year ago, said shoppers spent $14.3 billion on local shops and restaurants last year. A brand new business called “The Narrows” organized the small business day in the basement of the Carl Mizel building.
May says they’ve seen up uptick in people choosing to spend more money downtown now that the Great Recession is in the rear-view mirror.
