The NWS states more than 60,000 DTE Energy customers were reportedly without power because of wind damage, while some isolated areas of Michigan received more than two inches of rain.

The storms Sunday that caused significant damage across Michigan appeared to knock out power to only a few hundred residents in Livonia.

Most should be back late Wednesday. At least one tornado was confirmed in Owendale in Huron County. DTE said it’s Livingston County outages peaked at 9,000, mostly in Brighton and Genoa Townships.

WDIV reported 1,4000 customers were still without power Monday night, and DTE had brought 70 linemen from Indiana to help restore power. “But July was a fairly dry month, which meant that the ground could absorb the water”. Thousands of power outages were reported in the Grand Rapids and Traverse City areas.

A central Michigan newspaper said it had to reprint the Monday edition after papers were destroyed during the storm. The driver was not injured.
