Story’s homer starts Rockies’ surge to 5-1 win over Reds

In the second inning of Wednesday’s Rockies-Reds game (COL-CIN GameTracker), baseball events unfolded in the following manner…

Rookie Robert Stephenson (2-0) got his second win as an injury fill-in after being called up from Triple-A earlier in the day because scheduled starter Alfredo Simon has a strained biceps.

Jayson Heyward, playing at Busch Stadium for the first time since leaving to sign with Chicago, was 0 for 4 at the plate, made two nice catches in right field and was booed throughout.

Stephenson has been recalled from Triple-A Louisville and will get the start Tuesday against the Rockies.

Stephenson gave up three earned runs in five innings in his major league debut on April 7 against the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Rockies try to end this six-game trip with four victories as they hand the ball to Chad Bettis (2-0, 2.95), who has a chance to win three straight starts for the first time.

Lyles gave up only one hit through four innings.

With Mark McGwire managing for the first time in place of ejected Andy Green, Wil Myers and Derek Norris hit two-run homers, and Adam Rosales added a solo shot for San Diego.

The Rockies offense was stagnant apart from back to back doubles by Mark Reynolds and Ben Paulson in the 2nd and the 9th inning home run by Reynolds. “It helped to have him pitch deeper into the game”.

Carrasco (2-0) came up limping after covering first base during the third inning but powered through 103 pitches.

The Cincinnati Reds made team history on this unsuspecting Tuesday in April 2016.

Nationals 7, Marlins 0: Bryce Harper hit a grand slam, one of a record four home runs in a seven-run seventh inning for Washington, and the Nationals beat Miami.

“I knew Ohlendorf throws hard so I was looking for a fastball and I got one”, said Story, who has eight home runs this season. Eugenio Suarez leads Cincinnati with 16 hits, Jay Bruce has 13 RBI and Brandon Phillips has one home run.

The Colorado Rockies haven’t been shy about flexing their muscle and slugging their way to victory while the Cincinnati Reds have been rather generous with serving up the longball.

Meanwhile, the bullpen issues continued for Cincinnati (6-7), which rallied to tie the score in the sixth only to see the Rockies erupt for four runs in the eighth. He gave up that many runs with 12 strikeouts over 11 2-3 innings during his first two games, which both resulted in Reds’ home wins. “They didn’t want me to hurt my arm”. “I put a good swing on it and it went out”.

Nolan Arenado singled to open the second and Paulsen followed with a walk.
