Straight Outta Compton Gets Just One Oscar Nomination, Ice Cube Responds
“Straight Outta Compton”, “Carol” and directors Ridley Scott and Steven Spielberg were left wanting when the nominations for the 88th Academy Awards were revealed Thursday.

But the 46-year-old rapper was quite circumspect when he was interviewed after the nominations had been announced.
“I’m not pissed. You know, I’m not surprised”.
The Oscars aren’t known for being very diverse, although they tend to placate minorities by throwing in some black nominees here and there. “I can’t be mad”. Ice Cube, who is now doing the press rounds for his newest film Ride Along 2 spoke about the situation during an appearance on the Wendy show with Wendy Williams. It is up for Best Screenplay, but not one single actor of color was nominated in any of the acting categories.
Many Twitter users voiced their opinions using the hashtag #Oscarssowhite, which originally debuted a year ago when Oscars host Neil Patrick Harris commented that they were honouring the “best and whitest” at the 2015 ceremony.
In the film, Ice Cube is portrayed by his real-life son O’Shea Jackson Jr. But it’s a bad look for an awards show already clinging to relevance like Leonardo DiCaprio clinging to hope that someday he’ll actually win an Oscar. The film, which is already one of the highest grossing box-office movies in history, was honored with two nominations in the Best Sound Editing and Best Sound Mixing categories, respectively. “Of course I am disappointed, but this is not to take away the greatness (of the films nominated)”.

Well you might not be mad, Cube, but we certainly are. At least she’s responding to the controversy rather than ignoring it.
