According to Variety, the second season will feature nine episodes, which is one more than its inaugural season.

The news comes hardly as a surprise, as the supernatural drama has become arguably the buzziest series of the summer.

The show will be executive produced by Shan Levy, Dan Cohen and the Duffer Brothers.

This morning, the streaming media giant announced their renewal of the series via a YouTube teaser, which teases Stranger Things Season 2 for some point in 2017.

If you haven’t watched Stranger Things yet, then what are you waiting for?

No cast announcements have been made yet, but one can only assume that everyone’s favourite friendship quartet will be returning to our screens, alongside Winona Ryder, David Harbour and breakout star of the year, Millie Brown.

The ’80s-set thriller follows the disappearance of a young boy and a telekinetic girl who helps his friends with their search, while the boy’s older brother and the town police chief start their own investigations. It’s impossible for me to imagine a six or seven season series.

The show’s creators, Matt and Ross Duffer, sat down for an interview with IGN, in which they revealed they drew inspiration from several video games, such as The Last of Us, Silent Hill, Dark Souls and more. “So it’s open-ended in a way that if people wanted it and if Netflix wanted it, we could explore it and continue this storyline”.

“We want to retain the tone, but all of our sequels feel a little different”, Ross Duffer said. In season 2, the showrunners will be exploring “the repercussions of everything that happened” in the preceding season.
