Stranger Things returns for second season next year

Following the success of season one, it won’t come as much of a surprise to anyone that Netflix has officially confirmed renewal of Stranger Things. Yep, that’s one more episode than Season 1 (not gonna complain, the more Stranger Things, the better). Netflix hasn’t announced any additional details, but we expect those to begin trickling in as work on season two progresses.

In an interview with EW following the announcement, the brothers also confirmed that, while characters from season one will return, new characters will be introduced and new towns will be explored.

“I think we talked like a larger time jump where the kids are older now and it’s a different decade”, Ross Duffer said. The story will take place in the fall of 1984. We want it to have the same feel and pacing as season 1. (Though, Netflix could try to capitalize on the series success and schedule Season 2’s debut in the first half of the year instead).

Season two of Stranger Things is slated to premiere in 2017.

The first Stranger Things season 2 teaser doesn’t have any footage – it’s really just a variation on the regular title sequence. Executive producers Shawn Levy, Dan Cohen, and the Duffer brothers are all still on board as well. We could explore it if Netflix wanted to continue. They also promise “justice for Barb”, the show’s breakout character who was killed so callously early in the season. They told Entertainment Weekly that numerous characters will return to Hawkins, IN to continue the story of Will, Dustin, Mike, Lucas and, maybe, Eleven, the mysterious girl with telekinetic abilities who may or may not have died at the end of season one.
