Today’s announcement comes with a video revealing what may or may not be the names of next season’s episodes, including such eerie titles as “The Pumpkin Patch” and “The Lost Brother”.
The first season was viewed by 14.4 million people in the five weeks follwiing its launch on Netflix in mid-July. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Stranger Things creators the Duffer Brothers said the new season will introduce four new characters, although the possible return of Eleven is still “up in the air”. He went on to reveal that Hawkin’s won’t be the only setting, stating “We will venture a little bit outside of Hawkins”.
“There had to be casualties in order for the stakes to be what they are”, says Ross Duffer. They told a great story the first time around and left just enough things dangling so they can tell even more stories in the future.
But Season 2 is sure to be premiered in 2017. Writers/creators Matt and Ross Duffer will return, along with executive producers Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen.
Watch the brief teaser for the season, which seems to indicate what the episode titles will be, above. “I think if it gets any longer, it gets unwieldy for us”. Seeing as Season 1 ended in the winter of 1983, almost a year will have passed for Will Byers and his friends when Season 2 premieres. We want to make sure it’s manageable and we want to be able to tell a movie-like story where it’s never treading water.

The show is perhaps the most successful evocation of the 1980s sci-fi horror genre we’ve seen, and has proved a great success for Netflix.
