Actress Shannon Purser, who portrayed Barb in season one, celebrated the news by tweeting: “We’ve finally been renewed for Season 2!”

Her tweet sparked a spoiler alert because her character was killed off in the first series.

Sadly, Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) may not return to Season 2..

The show’s creators, the Duffer Brothers, will return, as will executive producers Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen.

Stranger Things season 2 is set for release in 2017. Also in the clip are what appear to be the episode titles for the new season. They told Entertainment Weekly that numerous characters will return to Hawkins, IN to continue the story of Will, Dustin, Mike, Lucas and, maybe, Eleven, the mysterious girl with telekinetic abilities who may or may not have died at the end of season one.

“I know movie sequels get a lot of s-t, but the ones we look up to aspire to pivot and do something different”, Matt Duffer said.

The Upside Down will continue to play a big role in Season 2.. “So we definitely want to explore a little bit more”. “We don’t know about Eleven”, says Ross Duffer. They’re further implying that the show could continue for as many as seven seasons, to mirror Harry Potter and allow us to watch the kids grow up. “What else could be out there?” said Ross Duffer.

While we’re glad to have official confirmation that the show is returning, there never really was a question, considering the series’ popularity. There’s a lot more mystery there to be solved’.

In an interview with EW following the announcement, the brothers also confirmed that, while characters from season one will return, new characters will be introduced and new towns will be explored.
