Strasburg wins 13th straight decision, Nats beat Phils 9

The Nationals got home as the sun rose Friday morning, so they did not take batting practice on the field in the afternoon. He went 3-for-4 on the night.

Strasburg became the majors’ first 10-game victor despite a rocky beginning, and the Washington Nationals overcame a four-run deficit to beat the Philadelphia Phillies 9-6 on Friday night.

“I am making solid contact”. “I just need to continue to stay with my work and my approach”.

How it happened: All season long manager Dusty Baker has said he believes the Nationals are a hot weather team. Once The Buffalo gets moving, it’s hard to slow him down. But it was one game of 162, and there will be more like it. He is a veteran who has been there before. He hit two home runs tonight.

Jeremy Hellickson was spotted a four-run lead, thanks to Joseph and a bottom half of the lineup that scratched across two runs in the second inning with a lot of small ball. The top overall pick of the 2009 draft, he struck out 10 versus Cincinnati for his fourth double-digit performance in his last six outings. It was his seventh in his last 14 games. “I gave up a few runs there early, but I was going to keep pounding away”.

“He got very determined not to give up any more”, Baker said. He’s 8 for 19 over his last four games with two doubles and three RBIs.

The Phillies thought they had Strasburg on the ropes.

Are the Nationals a good bet to cover on the runline tonight when they host the Phillies at 7:05PM ET? “It will be just to let him know what his status is”. He was encouraged to see Howard be one of the first to congratulate Joseph in the dugout after his home runs Friday.

Cody Asche and Tyler Goeddel (on a single/safety squeeze) drove in runs in the second and Tommy Joseph drove in two with a one-out home run to left-center in the third. His two-run shot in the eighth off Felipe Rivero cut the lead to 9-6.

“Tommy is just. I can’t sit Tommy Joseph”.

Over on the Nationals’ side, we’ll be seeing right-hander Tanner Roark make the start. Back on Sunday, Nola put up six shutout innings, allowing eight hits against the Brewers for a win. Luis Garcia, a former Washington minor leaguer, took over in the seventh for the Phillies and gave up two runs.

The Phillies are 3-10 in their last 13 games overall and have lost five of six road games.

Jonathan Papelbon pitched the ninth inning for his 16th save.

The first-place Nationals, who trailed 4-0, have scored 41 runs in their last five games. He drove in Espinosa and Revere, who had each singled. Only eight major league rookies have more home runs, and all of them except Seattle’s Dae-Ho Lee (99 at-bats) has at least twice as many at-bats as Joseph’s 65 this season. The biggest thing was just falling behind. It hurt, especially because the anemic Phillies offense produced and Hellickson, the team’s best trade chip, failed. “This loss is definitely on me”.

Phillies: RHP Vince Velasquez was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right biceps strain. In his 12 starts and 4-4 record this year, Roark has recorded a 3.21 ERA with a 1.25 WHIP in 73 innings. “It’s great to have him here”, Mackanin said. SS Carter Kieboom, a high schooler from Georgia, said in a conference call Friday he hopes to decide by Saturday if he plans to sign with the Nationals or head to college at Clemson.
