Streb shoots 63, ties Walker for PGA Championship lead
Spieth made three birdies in his opening four holes, along with a careless three-putt from just off the 12th green, to work his way up the leaderboard at Baltusrol.

Walking off the 7th green at Baltusrol today, Jason Day was in jeopardy of not even making it to the weekend to defend his title at the PGA Championship.
Jordan Spieth putts on the 18th hole during the second round of the PGA Championship golf tournament at Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, N.J., Friday, July 29, 2016.
Walker was unaware of the record possibilities as he stood on the 18th tee and promptly drove into the water to the left of the fairway and compounded the error by three-putting from long range.
Stenson said he was still feeling strong, but the hectic 2016 season rolls on and he looks forward to competing in the Olympics, the FedExCup and the Ryder Cup that follows.
“So it’s good. It’s really cool”.
He’s just six off the pace and well in the hunt, but Adam Scott is dirty after failing to cash in on flawless scoring conditions at the PGA Championship. It’s what you are here to do. “Give it like 10, 15 minutes from the time we resumed play, it actually absorbed the water pretty darn well – I was very impressed by that”. I’ve won different ways. “I kept setting myself up for opportunities and even when I was out of position, I had ideal angles, which was nice”. I should have thrown it at the target a bit more because it was so soft.
If he gets to Sunday and wins another major, Stenson would join Ben Hogan as the only players at age 40 to win back-to-back majors.
Streb hasn’t had a top 10 on the PGA Tour since he tied for 10th in the PGA Championship previous year.
“Happy to join the club that seems to be ever-growing”, he said. “Most of the year has been a big struggle…since the PGA last year”. “I’ll still take two weeks off from tournaments, but I’ll have to see what practice schedule looks like”. “I think being able to kind of voice where I’m at mentally and physically with my health takes a lot of expectations off my shoulders and lets everyone know that I don’t have a lot of expectation coming to the week”. Streb matched the lowest score of 63 in a major, which included the playing of the front nine in 30. “But at the end of the day you still need to make the putts”. “That [tiredness] is not something I’m concerned about”, said Stenson.
“Just a few swear words inside my head, like ‘What are you doing?'” the 28-year-old said. “I’m hitting the ball fantastic”. “Like, ‘What are you doing?” Why are you giving shots to the field when you don’t need to do that? In his last seven major rounds he has averaged more than 80% of greens in regulation. If I can continue on the upward curve, I’ll have a chance over the weekend.
Stenson only had a week to drink “champagne, champagne and champagne” out of the Claret Jug due to a condensed schedule to accommodate golf’s return to the Olympics. “He’s just having a period where he’s not feeling it. He will get it back”. “I literally asked every question I could ask and I got every answer I could to be content. He said it was just fine, so it was just fine”.

“I expect to be exhausted at some point, whether it be after this week or after the Olympics. I am not going out to shoot two 70s”. “That’s the way I’m feeling”, he added.
