Stricker might have played in his final major at PGA
The 48-year-old golfer from Madison walked up to the 18th green in the 97th PGA Championship at Whistling Straits, the crowd cheering, with a few spectators chanting his name.

Five years after a bunker fiasco on the final hole cost him a spot in a playoff at Whistling Straits, Johnson opened his closing round with a quadruple bogey. He didn’t have a par until the seventh hole and finished the day with two back-nine eagles, six birdies, three bogeys and that quad.
“I made some putts today, which I haven’t been doing this year at all”, he said.
Hudson’s Brent Snyder was to tee off at 1:50 p.m. Friday. “I never really pressed it this year”.
He also plans to continue with his semi-retirement by playing a limited schedule next season so he can spend more time at home with his family.
Stricker had a little run with three straight birdies at 10, 11 and 12, and was thinking he might be able to sustain it into the clubhouse. That put him just two shots back of the leaders. Then, the ones that make the cut, like Holmes, will have to play their third round. Stricker is not in the field at next week’s Wyndham Championship, so his 21st season on the PGA TOUR will come to a close.
“I’m not going to give up trying, ” said Stricker, 48, who tied for 30th. “I’m going to continue to try to get in these majors, but, I don’t know, it could be my last”.

“Walking up there, that was pretty special when I was getting that standing ovation there, and I took a moment there, for sure”, he said. I hear Wisconsin fans wherever I go. “But still played a pretty special round today”.
