Strictly beats X Factor and I’m A Celebrity to top Sunday ratings

In the latest X Factor gaffe, co-host Olly Murs announced the departure of a contestant ahead of the official result. When Simon Cowell opted to send Monica Michael home, he revealed that because three judges had opted to send her home, she was therefore eliminated.

The audience members were muttering to themselves at this point while Monica put her shaking hand over her eyes and a crew member passed Olly a brown envelope with the actual final result inside it – which Caroline quickly snatched off him to prevent any more unfortunate slips.

Later on The Xtra Factor, Olly said explained: “I made a massive mistake tonight”. You didnt have to see it – you could sense it. I found that very amusing – she was probably hiding at the back of the arena.

“One fan wrote on Twitter, and sarcastically said, “Tune into ITV2 now where Olly Murs will be revealing who is leaving next week on the #XFactor“, while another fan said, “#xfactor ollie murs proves its a #fix“.

The host tweeted he was “still learning and hope that never happens again”.

Although many jumped to the Essex singer’s defense, a few Twitter users were quick to use the blunder as evidence for the show supposedly being a “fix”.

Jamie East also tweeted writing: “You know what – presenting ANY live TV is f*cking hard, let alone X Factor live results. I make LOADS in life and on telly… it’s live!” The two performers had gotten the lowest number of votes from the public.

Her rendition of Veronika Bozeman’s What Is Love was praised by the judges. Mason Noise was a huge hit when he performed a sexy renditon of Senorita with Rita Ora at his first audition, but things went downhill from there.

The X Factor, sandwiched in-between the two others, aired on ITV at 8pm and garnered 7.3 million viewers, with a 30% share and a 100,000 increase from the previous Sunday.
