There’s no results show this week as all the celebrities are safe from elimination or that dreaded dance off. But it’s worth remembering that the scores are being carried through to next week, when we will, unfortunately, have to say our first goodbye…

The race to win the glitter ball is in full swing, as the first episode of Strictly Come Dancing kicks off with an outstanding performance from Anita Rani!

The soap actress will be dancing a jive to Meghan Trainor’s Dear Future Husband, alongside newcomer Giovanni.

Fellow panellist Craig Revel Horwood was booed as he complained about Ogogo’s “pigeon toes” but he also stated: “You’re the best boxer we’ve ever had on Strictly”.

Dancing like the “perfect gentleman”, according to Darcey, O’Donnell perhaps outperformed expectations to earn 24 points, despite a four from Craig.

“She is incredible”, said Jay, as they showed clips from rehearsals, as he praised his dance partner, Aliona. Craig was shocked it was so confident, Darcey said it was wonderful to see her have such a great dance with Gleb.

“I didn’t feel like you were enjoying the experience”.

The 26 year old split his pants during the energetic routine to Wham! classic Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go. Next week we want the main course” while Craig added: “‘You need to sort your posture out… “You need to try and maintain the level too”.

Glamour arrived in the form of broadcaster Katie Derham who clearly had a ball dancing a jive with partner Anton Du Beke. “I can’t believe this is week one and we’re seeing this standard”, he exclaimed as she topped the leaderboard with 29 points.

“It’s just up to me now to settle my nerves and display some of what I’ve learned”. Darcey Bussell said Iwan’s Tango “got out of control”. I just hope I can step up on Saturday night’.
