RESIDENTS on the island of Mindanao in Southern Philippines received a rude shock early Saturday morning when an natural disaster rattled several areas in the region, various reports said.

A strong natural disaster of magnitude 6.3 struck off the Philippine’s Mindanao island on Saturday, sending hotel guests and construction workers running from buildings in Davao.

The USGS also detected a 5.6 magnitude natural disaster in Romania on Saturday morning.

The natural disaster occurred 69 km below the seabed, however, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said that it is not expected to trigger a tsunami.

“There was no report of damage yet but since the quake was offshore… we expect no significant damage”, Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology chief Renato Solidum told AFP.

The news agency also quoted Dave Cabrera, a security guard at Hotel Uno in downtown Davao, who said the quake was felt strongly in the city.

“That quake was strong”.

Romania is not often hit by earthquakes.
