Strong iPhone 7 pre-orders from AT&T, Sprint help Apple shares soar

Apple’s iPhone 7, scheduled to hit stores in many countries on Friday, has already gotten high marks from reviewers on its state-of-the art camera, faster processing speeds, and noticeable improvements to water resistance, battery life and memory. The 32GB version of the iPhone 7 Plus will most likely cost around Rs 70,000. For the first three days, pre-orders at Sprint climbed around 375 percent.

Ars Technica’s Andrew Cunningham on the other hand is a bit more skeptical of the new device, and still irked about Apple’s decision to ditch the headphone jack. However, it’s not going to be just any ordinary iPhone, but either an iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s or an iPhone 6s Plus that you’d have to trade-in. Near the end of the piece, The New York Times notes that numerous internal changes included in Apple’s latest smartphone actually pave the way for next year’s drastic redesign. While the company had said it would not disclose pre-order numbers for its recently-unveiled iPhone 7 and 7 Plus like it usually does, two renowned carriers have released some very impressive iPhone pre-order numbers. The company said last week that first-weekend pre-orders are a better indicator of supply than demand.

T-Mobile US claims pre-order activity for the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus models surpassed previous launches at the carrier, with last Friday setting a single-day sales record for the carrier, and pre-orders between Friday and Monday “up almost 4x compared to the next most popular iPhone”.

The iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus is up for pre-order in several countries across the world. The stock’s consensus 12-month price target is $123.66. It’s one of the most frustrating aspects of the update. While Apple will be bringing the new iPhones in India on October 7, premium retailers have now started taking pre-registrations.
