The 2016 Zurich Classic of New Orleans won’t be 72 holes and it won’t end on Sunday.

American Brian Stuard, who led after day one, is just one shot off the lead and still has six holes left in his second round, which will be completed on Saturday.

The 33-year-old Stuard, winless on the PGA Tour, continued his steady play with two birdies.

Overnight leader Hur Mi-Jung of South Korea had three birdies in her first 12 holes and was alone in third place at eight-under with six holes remaining when play was suspended for the day.

On the next hole, the par-5 second, his third shot landed just over 10 feet from the cup, but Stuard made the putt for his second straight birdie.

The delay lasted so long, play was suspended Sunday, making it officially a 54-hole tournament.

With more thunderstorms expected on Monday, play will now resume at 7am local time (1pm United Kingdom time) and has been reduced to a 54-hole event.

Tournament officials said the event would be shortened to 54 holes and was slated to resume Monday morning. “We just got to keep that right mind frame and just worry about the next shot”.

Fortunately, everyone was on the course and had played at least five holes at the time officials halted play on Sunday.

“When things like this happen, you just got to try and take the opportunities that you get, capitalize on them and try and win the Tournament that way”, said Day. Lovemark played 27 holes on Friday to jump into contention with a second-round 66. It is his second 36-hole lead (2014 Sony Open; finished sixth).

Vegas overcame a double-bogey seven on the 11th to card a 69 and join Lovemark at the summit.

Day is tied with Charley Hoffman, Scott Stallings, Chris Kirk and Charles Howell III.

Stuard is positioned comfortably to make the cut – projected at 2-under – once second-round play resumes Saturday. Because there is a lot of sitting around, a lot of eating, and all that other stuff.
