Stubborn Barclays bungles mobile payments for second time
Barclays is going it alone when it comes to mobile pay, rolling out its own contactless payment app on Android to all its customers, eschewing Google’s own soon to launch Android Pay service.

Barclays customers can register their credit and debit cards using Barclays’ Android app and then make contactless payments by tapping an NFC-enabled phone on contactless terminals in stores.
Barclays is set to unveil the UK’s first Android contactless payment service.
As the feature is a part of the main Barclays banking app, set-up should be straightforward and your eligible cards and accounts should automatically appear once the option rolls out to everyone in June. Apple Pay launched a year ago, with Barclays eventually jumping on board in April.
Payments can be made up to £30 with a simple swipe, but payments of up tp £100 can be made by entering the card’s pin through the app.
Today’s announcement and other recent launches mean that Barclays and Barclaycard continue to offer the widest range of payment innovations created to give customers unrivalled choice of paying for everyday goods and services, and sending and receiving money in a way that’s most convenient for them.
Android Pay is due to make its debut in the United Kingdom in the coming months with support from some of the country’s biggest banks, including HSBC and Lloyds. Customers will need to update to the latest version of the app on their Android phone. Customers need to select the card they want to be used as the default card.
