It won’t show up as a defensive masterpiece, but Rose, Butler and the rest of the Bulls returned to their defensive roots to large measure to put up one of their best showings on that end of the season, considering the competition. Russell Westbrook had 30 points, 12 assists, and nine rebounds, Kevin Durant added 26 points and 10 assists, and Enes Kanter scored 10 of his 21 points in the final period.
The Bulls will head to Oklahoma City on Christmas Day to take on the Thunder as a road underdog at 2:30PM ET.
“We’ve just got to go out there and attack”, Chicago forward Taj Gibson, who got a double technical with Oklahoma City’s Serge Ibaka, said.
But Lakers veteran Kobe Bryant was again feeling the physical strain, this time with a sore right knee. We’v e got enough friends in here. “We were making plays for each other. We went hard and had good, physical practices.”.
Thunder: Durant and Westbrook were the first teammates to each have at least 25 points and 10 assists in a regulation game since Utah’s John Stockton (31 points, 11 assists) and Karl Malone (27 points, 10 assists) on February 2, 1996.
“I do think we’re capable of being better”, Thunder coach Billy Donovan said.
“You can game plan all you want”, Malone said. We know K.D.is a great three-point shooter, [Anthony] Morrow, and Westbrook when his feet are set, and you just can’t let them get hot.
“When we move the ball like that guys feed off that and make big plays”, Durant said. The unit played well, but the Thunder got no closer than six.
OKC just wasn’t ready to play. Durant scored 19 points in the half, and Westbrook had 12 points and five assists.
Gasol and Butler each had 11 points in the first half for the Bulls. The Bulls led 86-68 at the end of the third quarter.
With 4:58 left in the second quarter, the Bulls led the Thunder 51-37. Right now the Bulls have a record of 16-11 and are ranking fifth place, according to Chicago Tribune. Morrow made three 3-pointers in the fourth quarter. After the Nuggets’ loss in San Antonio on Saturday, Malone met former Denver coach Doug Moe for the first time and offered him an “open invitation” to visit the team in Denver.
Heat 94, Pelicans 88, OT: Chris Bosh had 30 points and 10 rebounds, Dwyane Wade added 19 points, and host Miami beat New Orleans in overtime. They prevailed 100-91 against the New York Knicks, who stumbled to a fourth consecutive loss despite a 29-point haul from Carmelo Anthony.
