Durham Police say a total of six people were injured, one of whom was in serious but not life threatening condition.

Durham Regional Police were forced to put the school in Pickering in lock down this morning.

Four of the injured are said to be students, the other 2 staff members.

“We’re giving kudos to the staff members that stopped this before it got worse”, Calder said.

Another girl said her best friend was stabbed in the neck.

“I just wish everyone well and that we can return to normalcy and that anyone that was hurt will be fine”.

“People will call them heroes, but I’m sure they’ll say they were doing what anyone else would have done, but it was courageous thing to do in such a unsafe situation”, said Calder.

Dunbarton High School, in the Toronto suburb of Pickering, was locked down for several hours but students have since been allowed to leave.

Dalton VanderElst said he got to school at 8:30 a.m. and a teacher yelled to get out, that there was someone with a knife. The same student said she didn’t know the alleged suspect, adding the girl wasn’t very talkative.

Police have not released the age of the suspect, though Calder told reporters that she is in one of the “younger grades”.
