A staff member saw the student inside the school with a gun, District 220 communications director Morgan Delack said.

A student who brought a gun and ammunition to a Chicago high school was arrested Monday afternoon, according to law enforcement officials. “The teacher did exactly what he was supposed to do in reporting it to the police and to the school administrators, so we responded immediately”, said Barrington Police Chief Dave Dorn.

Upon arresting the student, police were able “to ensure there were no accomplices”, the email, obtained by the Tribune, stated.

The student turned himself in to the school resource officer, according to the district.

“Our SROs have good rapport with this student and many others”, Grounsell said, “therefore I believe that played a role in him voluntarily turning the gun over to the SRO”. Parents were notified about the incident that lasted less than an hour.
