Students celebrate Black History Month

Trinity students were asked why they thought it was important to continue to celebrate Black History Month every year.

Other Black History Month celebrations this weekend include a soul food dinner at City High on Friday and a Unity Concert at New Creations International Church Saturday afternoon. “As a curator, I seek integration and interaction”. ASALH’s executive summary for 2016 states, “One can not tell the story of America without preserving and reflecting on the places where African Americans have made history”.

“PAFA has specialized in exhibitions that represent artists who have been marginalized or fell through the cracks”, he said.

Onyejiaka also believes that for Hopkins students who have felt the effects of Freddie Gray’s death and the subsequent protests in Baltimore, Black History Month has even greater relevancy now.

Turner said he understands the marketing aspect and giving people something easier to connect with, but it’s still “strange”.

I probably taught you more about black history in those two paragraphs than your primary school ever did in 13 years combined. “The concept of what’s possible for the future has less to do with artistic visualization, it has more to do with interpreting your own experience and what you would like to see from the possible fictional future, what’s possible in publishing, or what’s possible in real life”.
