According to the report, students discovered the cash amount after opening the cushion zip.
They said that there were many envelopes containing cash and when they added them, the total turned to $40,000.
However, the kind hearted roommates decided to handover it back to its original owner, who was a 91 year old widow.
They tracked the woman down from the deposit slip kept with the cash.
Ms. Guasti said the elderly woman, who wished to remain nameless, cried in gratitude when they gave her back the cash.
