Study Says Cowboys Fans Are the Best in Football

How does that compare to lowest average priced teams and the lowest ranked fan bases?

So it appears the Cowboys are still “America’s team” – or at least their fans are the most engaged in the most American of ways.

It’s a debate that likely never will be settled for a variety of reasons, the primary of which is that the people doing the debating are highly biased in their belief that their fan base has an ardor beyond any other.

Well, thanks to a couple of guys over at Emory Sports Marketing Analytics, there is.

Hecken says the NFC’s best uniform – and the NFL’s, for that matter – is the Packers’ green and gold: “classic old-school looks that have remained basically unchanged since the team won the first Super Bowl in 1967”.

“By hard data we mean data on actual fan behavior”.

“For a team that doesn’t go monochrome and doesn’t have any alternate jersey or trousers, you’d think the Lions would be ranked higher”, Hecken writes.

Maybe the biggest surprise is some of the teams that aren’t at the top.

Mix all those elements together and the Cowboys’ strong tradition, devoted supporters and money-printing stadium help put Dallas on top.

When the Dolphins open their 2015 slate of home games against the Bills on September 27, the seats at Sun Life Stadium will be filled (or not) with the worst fans in football, according to an Emory University study released Wednesday. And of course, no one would ever admit to be the worst fan base of any team.

What about fans that live away from the team’s city?

“The victor this year is the Dallas Cowboys followed by the Patriots, Giants, Ravens, and Jets”, he writes.

The Dolphins are dead last, and are joined at the bottom with the likes of the Cleveland Browns, Oakland Raiders, and Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Jets haven’t performed all that well on the field in recent years, with zero playoff appearances in the past four seasons.

This is the third year in a row they’ve tried to make a determination, as fan bases wax and wane with their support, some cresting and bottoming in relation to winning stretches and losing spells.

So, once again, congratulations Miami Dolphins fans, you suck!
