Stunning Henderson strike helps Liverpool beat Chelsea

Conte’s defence last night was missing John Terry and quite clearly, it was missing any leadership perfectly summed up in Liverpool’s first goal by Lovren.

The away side registered two shots on target inside the first two minutes, Thibaut Courtois saving from Georginio Wijnaldum and Daniel Sturridge, and they took the lead in the 17th minute. Before halftime we had moments where Chelsea played better, but because we stopped playing football.

“I think he played very well”, the coach said of the summer arrival.

“The second half we did well after they scored the goal, it was deeper passionate defending”.

Gary Cahill cleared the ball to Henderson 30 meters from goal and he took aim before curling beautifully into the top corner.

He asked them to pay attention to details if they want to think like a great team.

It was then all too easy for Matic to pick out Costa with a cross and for the Spaniard to get Chelsea back into the game from 2-0 down. We want to win football games and we can not care where it is.

Without a goal since his winning header in last season’s epic Europa League comeback against Borussia Dortmund, the Croatian defender cushioned the ball on the half volley to guide it into the far corner and past the despairing dive of Thibault Courtois.

Diego Costa pulled a goal back for the hosts after the interval but Liverpool saw out the remainder of the contest to record another positive result.

However, Klopp’s Liverpool refused to be intimidated and were well worth their 2-1 win.

He told Sky Sports: “It felt like Chelsea came into the game obsessed about Liverpool and forgot about their own game”.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson echoed his manager’s words and believes that their performance is a confidence boost for the club.

“We have 10 points”.

“We’ve been brilliant the last few weeks and in training we’ve been brilliant all week, so I had a good feeling going into the game [and] we produced”.

Lovren was equally impressed with the Reds’ first-half display, adding: “I think we did brilliant especially the first half, we played some of the best football this season”. They had taken just nine points from those ten matches, beating Watford at Anfield but losing to Southampton (a), Swansea (a) and Crystal Palace (h). We need this player there in the centre who we can play with and if theres a ball behind the line sometimes, so that we can go there and can push up in the last line.
