Stuntman successfully launches rocket over Snake River Canyon
The only modification to the design of the rocket, dubbed “Evel Spirit”, was to that tricky parachute system that failed Evel during his attempt. Unlike Friday’s launch, Knievel’s jump was heavily promoted, and televised to a national audience on ABC’s Wide World of Sports.

Braun hoped his effort would prove that Knievel could have made it across the canyon if his parachute had deployed at the correct time.
Months of testing was performed on the rocket designed by Scott Truax, whose father constructed the original.
Knievel attempted the jump in September 1974 but his parachute deployed early resulting in both the rocket and Knivel crashing down to the bottom of the canyon, just missing the river below.
Internet and wire reports were used in this story.
“I don’t care if people think I’m insane or not”, Braun said.
Braun has spent more than three years preparing for this jump and that completing it would fulfil a lifelong goal.
Speaking to the Idaho Statesman, he said: “What better way to pay homage to the guy who inspired me and led me to become everything that I am professionally?” Continuing with “I’m simply finishing out his dream”.
Evel Knievel has been Mr Braun’s idol and inspiration since the day they met in the 1970s. “How many people get to finish the dream of their hero?”
Just before 4 p.m., Braun piloted the rocket “Evel Spirit” across the Snake River Canyon.
Several members of Knievel’s family were on hand, including Knievel’s son, Robbie Knievel, and Evel Knievel’s ex-wife, Krystal Kennedy-Knievel.

Reportedly, Knievel came up with the idea to attempt the jump while drinking at Moose’s Saloon in Kalispell in 1966.
