Sturridge ‘could be fit to face Manchester United in September’

Interestingly, both Joe Gomez and Jordon Ibe make the cut – but there is no place for Daniel Sturridge, even with the injury amnesty.

Sturridge was told he could be out until November after undergoing surgery in New York in May to solve his chronic hip problem.

While Liverpool get ready to travel to the Britannia Stadium this weekend in their Premier League opener, Reds striker Daniel Sturridge gave a cryptic injury update on social media as the 25-year old continues his recovery from hip surgery in the United States.

However, it appears Sturridge is well ahead of schedule in his recovery as the Mirror are one of several newspapers who are reporting today that the striker has been given the green light to return to training within the next fortnight.

Sturridge on Wednesday posted a video on Instagram with a one-word caption, which read “closer”.

He made just 12 Premier League appearances last season, missing the whole of Liverpool’s Champions League campaign.

In his column for the Sky Sports website, Carragher said: “I think it is important for Liverpool to look at this game as a great chance to put to bed what happened at the end of last season”. Brought in for a hefty £32.5 million price tag, Christian Benteke is Betway’s 11/10 (2.10) favourite to lead the goal-scoring charts for the Reds, having previously hit 42 goals in 88 appearances for Aston Villa.

Sturridge has also suffered from hamstring problems during his Anfield career and while he has been a success during his two-and-a-half years on Merseyside, his career threatens to be overshadowed by fitness concerns. Liverpool was strongly linked with him, but there are aslo another teams wanting him…
