Sturridge Could Start for Liverpool

Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren has praised the impact of new manager Jurgen Klopp, but insisted that the players must take responsibility for their struggles under Brendan Rodgers.

The England striker is yet to feature under Klopp and has played in only 58 Premier League games in nearly three years.

However, the German said that is no guarantee Sturridge will get a run-out in Thursday’s Europa League tie at home to Bordeaux, with Klopp stressing the striker needs to be able to prove he won’t suffer any more injury breakdowns. My decision [on the team] you will see tomorrow but the most important thing is he can train without problems.

Klopp said: “We are in a good position at this moment but in football you solve one problem and the next second you have another one”.

I can’t say so much about this because he trained in the morning, then we went to the hotel and Daniel was with us and then he had to leave to go for a scan.

Given that Bordeaux have shipped a fair amount of goals in Ligue 1 so far this term, we can see a comfortable victory for Jurgen Klopp’s side in this game, with confidence high among his playing squad.

However, Henderson started preliminary training last week, and is confident he is getting close to a comeback for a Liverpool side now just six points off the top four following a stunning 4-1 win at Manchester City on Saturday.

“I know he was one of the best full-backs I ever saw”, the Liverpool manager replied.

Easy games everybody can win, you have to win the tough games.

“We got the penalty – there was contact of course – but then we could start anew”.

“The intensity of this number of tournaments [means] sometimes you have to pay the price and I would say Crystal Palace was more of this than something else”, he added.

And ahead of Liverpool’s final group game against Sion, when it was put to Mignolet that the Reds could rest players, he shot back: “We want to win the group”.
