In a Liverpool career that would make Samuel L. Jackson’s character “Mr. Glass” from Unbreakable jealous, star striker Daniel Sturridge appears to be set for yet another spell on the sidelines with an apparent injury.

The England striker had only returned to the starting line-up, and scored twice, against Southampton in the Capital One Cup last midweek. He underwent a scan Tuesday, and results confirmed he had strained the muscle but not torn it.
The strain is just the latest in a long line of fitness problems that have plagued the former Manchester City and Chelsea forward throughout his career.
This, remarkably, is the seventh different injury Sturridge has sustained since September 2014. He has made just six appearances so far this season, as he recovered from hip surgery and dealt with a foot problem.
It is not inconceivable that the continued absence of the England global cost Brendan Rodgers his job earlier this year, and while Jurgen Klopp is more than secure in his role, Sturridge’s absence will be a major blow for the new Liverpool manager.
Christian Benteke and Roberto Firmino were withdrawn in the second half at Newcastle having failed to produce the intense pressing game that Klopp demands from his team, with Philippe Coutinho also absent with a hamstring injury.

Sturridge will certainly not be included in the squad that leaves for Switzerland on Wednesday for the Europa League clash with FC Sion; he is also out of the next two Barclays Premier League home fixtures, at home to West Brom on Sunday and then the trip to Watford seven days later.
