Sturridge not happy playing out wide

“We don’t have these positions any more where you say, “You play this all the time”, it is normal”. I’m on autopilot there.

“The players really skilled in finishing situations, you have them in and around the box”. But when you are out wide, you have got to worry about different things. “We can’t just rely on Sadio but he’s been outstanding for us and he gives us something different”. I just have to do a job for the team.

“I’m very happy because we won today and it was important to win”, Mane told Sky Sports.

He added: “Of course it is more hard for me to play wide”.

That charge could never be levelled against a Jose Mourinho side and the Portuguese takes Manchester United to Hull City with both teams having won their opening two games.

“Nobody has said to me: “I don’t want to play there”.

When asked to confirm that Sturridge has not expressed that frustration to him personally, Klopp added: “Of course not”.

“I can not give all players together the opportunity to play”.

He pointed to the goals Sturridge scored against Burton, both of which came inside the penalty area, as proof.

“You can’t play the same as if you are a centre-forward”. You do them on auto pilot.

“There is absolutely no problem”. Like I said, we still have to work on a lot of things.

‘Everyone knows where I enjoy playing the most. “It is only a starting position for the next offensive move for my team”, he said. It’s not a fixed position. “When you think we finished with a couple of teenagers and a 20 or 21-year-old, you could train with them for a couple of seasons and not gain the experience they’ve got tonight”.

‘It’s flexible football. It’s about getting in and around the box’.

The Black Eagles also helped turn around Mario Gomez’s career last season following a successful loan stint that saw him finish the league as top scorer and play a key role in winning the league title.

“When Daniel has played as a No. 9, if he stays there it makes no sense”. “Of course we will make changes, [but] it’s not likely that we will change seven or eight positions”.
