Sugar Bowl: Oklahoma State Cowboys – Ole Miss Rebels
Ole Miss (No. 12 CFP) wants to prove that it’s one of the better teams in the country following an up-and-down regular season full of impressive wins and head-scratching losses. This year the date (January 1) and venue (Sugar Bowl in the Superdome) are different.

Burning Question: Will Ole Miss show up?
Oklahoma State is 7-0 in its last seven games decided by a single score.
Rebels record setting quarterback Chad Kelly and his teammates participated in a two-hour practice session in the Superdome.
Ole Miss defeated Mississippi State 38-27 in its last game. “The SEC is the best conference in college football”. The Pokes had home-field advantage with Baylor and Oklahoma coming to Stillwater, but the visitors rolled out of town with the victories. “My childhood was spent hearing Rebel fans talk about Archie (Manning) leading us to a Sugar Bowl win, and I’m thrilled for our players, coaches and fans to return to New Orleans and represent the Southeastern Conference”.
Ole Miss hasn’t been to the Sugar Bowl since 1970. The Rebels have given up only 17 sacks this year.
The Ole Miss Rebels were 9-3 this season and finished 2nd in the SEC West Division standings. The Rebs were one point from a 10-2 mark but lost a 53-52 overtime battle to Arkansas in Week 10. Friday’s game is the Cowboys’ first Sugar Bowl since 1945, ending a 70-year drought that was the longest of any program that has appeared in the game at least twice. There are so many events during bowl week that if every player attends every event it detracts from focus during meetings and practice, Freeze said.
It doesn’t help that Oklahoma State’s pass-happy offense ranks 10th in yards per attempt and 15th in passing S&P+. Walsh has thrown for 663 yards and 13 touchdowns while also running for 11 touchdowns. Ole Miss has yielded 132.4 yards a game (3.4 per carry). Johnson should see plenty of time at D-end, where he started 12 games last season. In that game, redshirt freshman Breeland Speaks replaced Nkemdiche in the starting lineup and the Rebels merely shortened their defensive line rotation.
POSTSEASON RIVALRY: The Rebels and Cowboys have some recent postseason history. This year he has 76 grabs for 1,082 yards and 8 TDs.
Quarterback Chad Kelly has been delivering those balls to Treadwell. He’s also run for 427 yards and 10 touchdowns. On the ground, the Ole Miss Rebels average 181 yards per game in which Jaylen Walton tops with 690 yards and five touchdowns.
The Odds: Ole Miss is a 7 point favorite against Oklahoma State.
One of the reasons for Kelly’s success has been the reinstatement of Larry Tunsil up front. The Rebs run-blocking was putrid through the first two months of the season, but that all changed when Laremy Tunsil returned from his NCAA-mandated vacation.
Safety Jordan Sterns led the team with 103 stops and picked off two passes.
OSU has won four of the last five bowl games under coach Mike Gundy.
The No. 12 Rebels still remember their dismal performance against Texas Christian University that resulted in a 42-3 pounding by the Horned Frogs in the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl.

If Rudolph plays Friday night, the Cowboys might have a chance to knock off the Rebs. The Cowboys ranked seventh nationally with 357 yards per game, but a lot of it came from Rudolph.
