Felix will run the 400m and 4x400m in Rio, but she will not defend her Olympic 200m gold medal after missing the team by.01 seconds.

FINAL TICKETS: The men’s 1,500-meter race closes out the trials. To her right, Amanda Eccleston was frantically trying for the same goal.

In a surprise 110-meter finish at the U.S. Track and Field Trials, Oregon wide receiver Devon Allen won the event in 13.03 seconds. Huddle also won the 10,000 meters at the Trials last weekend to earn a spot on the USA team for the Rio Games next month. She said this week she’ll likely focus on the 5,000 alone in Rio.

Olympic champion Jenn Suhr won her 10th national pole vault with a clearance of 4.80 meters with Sandi Morris the runner-up at 4.75 event.

Several of those athletes hail from the NY region, including 800 meter runner Ajee’ Wilson, 22, of Neptune Township, N.J., and 200 meter sprinter Deajah Stevens, 21, of Bayside, N.Y. “When I give all I have and I run 22.50 [sic, 22.54], the speed just wasn’t there”. “I’m just happy and looking back, I realize how far I’ve come and how much more I’ve done than I expected”.

“She’s super-consistent as a racer”, McCabe said.

“I definitely had a moment where I didn’t think I could do it, and [my coaches] told me “You’re getting on the line and running this race”.

Understandably, Felix was disappointed at losing a shot at the double.

“But when I look back and see everything that happened, I still think it’s quite awesome that I was able to make this team”.

But it was the lack of conditioning, not the ankle, that slowed her on Sunday. Shelby Houlihan and Kim Conley also made the team for the Rio Games.

Sydney McLaughlin, a senior-to-be at Union Catholic High School, finished third in the 400-meter hurdles behind Dalilah Muhammad and Ashley Spencer.

Men’s head coach Vin Lananna said: “We have a lot of young athletes, but I think we have a good mixture of veterans as well that will pull the young athletes along”. “You hope for this since you’re a little girl”.

A 16-year-old from New Jersey is traveling with some fast company ― all the way to Rio. According to the AP, McLaughlin is the youngest person to compete on the USA track and field team since 1972. She sounded like it.

“She is a beast”, Carter said after the race. The third-best time was enough for her to finish first overall with 6,494 points, with Heather Miller-Koch second (6,423) and Kendell Williams third (6,402).

“I always said I wanted to compete against the best”, Suhr said.
