“Six people were killed, including the bomber herself, and a few others were injured in the church”, Abubakar said.

The bomber entered the uncompleted Redeemed Christian Church of God on Sunday, in the Jigawa area on the outskirts of the city, and detonated his explosives, killing the worshippers, including a woman and her two children as well as the pastor.

French President Francois Hollande said the Boko Haram threat was getting stronger and that he was ready to hold a summit, following one in Paris in May 2014, to gather the leaders of countries fighting the insurgents.

It is the latest bombing in a string of attacks blamed on Islamic extremist group Boko Haram that’s killed some 200 people in the past week.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility but Potiskum, the commercial capital of Yobe state, has been hit repeatedly by Boko Haram Islamists in their six-year insurgency, including by suicide bombers. Women who claim they lived in the same camps as some of the 219 girls who were taken from their school in the town of Chibok last April told the British Broadcastiong Corporation (BBC) last week that many are now administering punishments on behalf of Boko Haram.

Almost 100 men and boys praying in mosques were gunned down on Wednesday, and a local official said Sunday that 21 more bodies have been recovered from burnt-out houses since then. The insurgents have been carrying out their violent campaign since 2009, killing more than 15,000 people and displacing some 1.5 million.

Buhari is due to visit his counterpart in Cameroon after the Muslim holy month of Ramadan and meets President Barack Obama on July 20, when Boko Haram will be high on the agenda.
