Sullivan says Crosby’s not cheating in circle

When Letang faked a shot and drew the Sharks defense to him, Sheary was all alone.

Just like Crosby planned it.

It’s been a rousing success with the Penguins not only racing to one of the NHL’s best records from the point of his hiring, but the club’s first Stanley Cup final appearance since 2009.

“He is inspiring for our group and I know the players recognize the effort he is putting in”, Penguins coach Mike Sullivan said. “We just obviously have got to bear down going forward”. Additionally, Couture said he was not trying to lobby the officials to go watch Crosby more closely. After that, he worked on his draws and now he’s over 50-something per cent on faceoffs. “And unless it’s blatant, you’re not going to get (the call)”.

Pavelski, second to only Alex Ovechkin in goals over the past three National Hockey League seasons, registered only one shot in more than 22 minutes in Game 2 and two shots in a quiet Game 1. “It puts more pressure on them”, said Sharks goalie Martin Jones, who has kept San Jose from being completely embarrassed in the first two games.

Everybody thought wrong. The burgeoning dynasty fizzled, with Crosby bearing the brunt of perpetual disappointment, accepting the blame for everything from his health to spotty goaltending to a top-heavy roster that lacked the depth necessary to make a deep postseason run.

“Any young player, you’re not strong as other guys”. He said he’s going to wing it back and Tanger is going to find me in the soft area there.

Crosby’s reaction to what Couture said? Honed a style that’s a little unorthodox (and apparently in the eyes of opponents, a little illegal).

It’s a moniker Crosby held throughout his early 20s, right up until the moment the Washington center David Steckel’s stick smashed into Crosby’s head during the 2011 Winter Classic, a collision that sent Crosby on a two-year odyssey for a return to normal and almost made him a cautionary tale.

“That was very clear right off the bat so I think as a player the direction that he wanted the team to play and everything that came along with that, I think was well-understood and well-received”, Crosby said. “He prides himself in the details of his game, like faceoffs”.

“I think we are all doing the same thing in the faceoff circle, ” Crosby said. How it would be played out will be seen when Game 3 comes on.

“And so we’ve tried to implement some strategies to give these players an opportunity to play to their strengths”. Everybody has so much respect for Crosby and Malkin and Letang and those guys. “I wanted to make him work for the puck”.

“That’s normal for anybody”. Not only were they finding the net more often, but controlling the puck with increased frequency and by a wide margin.

Sheary said it was easier said than done.

It wasn’t a situation of, “Don’t get mad, get even”.

PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Penguins understand they still have a long road to travel.

After leading the Penguins’ AHL affiliate with 45 points in 58 games a year ago, Sheary began this season in the AHL on an offensive tear, recording 25 points in 24 games.

It’s not necessarily a high percentage move to draw up a play seconds before execution.

Crosby faceoff'He cheats' Logan Couture said Wednesday night after Sidney Crosby's faceoff win set up Conor Sheary's game-winning overtime goal giving the Penguins a 2-1 win and a 2-0 lead in the Stanley Cup final
