Despite threats from several sections of the society for his insensitive “raped woman” comment just a few days before the release of Sultan, the film managed to reap gold at the box office.

Incidentally, Sultan’s five-day India haul (Rs 180.36 crore) has already crossed the lifetime domestic collection of Airlift (Rs 127.8 crore), Housefull 3 (Rs 107.7 crore) and Fan (Rs 85 crore). “She holds a grudge against Sultan, not just that her child died but she gave up so much for a person who did not give a shit about her. By the end of the film she goes back to what she is doing”, Anushka added.
On a related note, Salman was last seen in the recently released Sultan.
Bollywood superstar Salman Khan’s Eid release “Sultan” has taken the box office by storm.
# Salman Khan’s latest film also became the first Indian movie to gross Rs 345 cr worldwide over the opening weekend.
The film on released day with 70-80% occupancy in India.
“#Sultan creates HISTORY… Had an UNPRECEDENTED 5- day weekend…”
#Sultan Wed 36.54 cr, Thursday 37.32 cr, Friday 31.67 cr, Sat 36.62 cr, Sun 38.21 cr, Monday 15.54 cr, Tue 12.92 cr, Wed 10.82 cr. In Australia and New Zealand, it had the highest opening weekend ever. Granted, the song-and-dance offerings of “Sultan” are tepid compared to the average Bollywood spectacle of choreography, but Ali Abbas Zafar’s direction, during those rare musical numbers, feels organic, with the camera joining the action a la Alfonso Cuaron rather than observing from some remove. It has collected in excess of Rs 91 crore (gross overseas figures), which is higher than Airlift’s collection of Rs 47.60 crore (gross overseas figures).

As per reports, the first week box office report tolled to around 209.4 crores, which is indeed a huge collection in terms of 2016 when a number of movies have fall flat on ground including the one from SRK called Fan. The Khan triumvirate dominates the top five, with Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan having one film each in the list.
