The Treasure Coast could see some significant storms – including the possibility of tornadoes – as a deadly, strong weather system pushes its way across the southern United States and into Central Florida.

A lake wind advisory and small craft advisory will be in effect Sunday afternoon, the weather service said. All other severe parameters remain the same, with strong straight line winds being the primary concern.

Showers and areas of rain this morning will taper off by the early afternoon with some peaks of sunshine likely.

The threat of storms will extend northward from the Gulf coast to northern Georgia and as far to the east as the coasts of northeastern Florida, Georgia and SC on Sunday.

The greatest potential for severe weather was expected east of U.S. Highway 1, including parts of the Triangle.

“The main threat with those storms is large hail and damaging winds”, Winesett said.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued for Flagler County until 4:45 p.m. Sunday.

This severe weather is expected to arrive just one day before Florida’s statewide Severe Weather Awareness Week.

With storms possibly arriving during the early morning hours on Saturday, it’s important to have several ways to receive important weather alerts.

Heavy storms move into Marion, Winston, Cullman, Blount, Etowah and Cherokee Counties by midnight.

Residents and visitors to the state should monitor local media outlets and ensure that their NOAA All Hazards Weather Radio alert settings are turned on.

A coroner confirmed seven people died at a mobile home park in south Georgia after the storm tore through the area on Sunday morning.

Cooler temperatures are forecast to follow Sunday’s storms with a high of 69 forecast in Daytona Beach on Monday and an overnight of 45. However, there is also an increasing risk of tornadoes. These storms will be brief due to their fast movement, but will pack potentially damaging winds and heavy, but brief rain. Through dawn, additional storms may form across the Apalachicola River region, swiftly moving northeast with some build-up in strength.
