Sunderland still waits on official confirmation from FA over Sam Allardyce’s appointment

It is believed to only be a matter of time before Allardyce is confirmed as Roy Hodgson’s successor as he looks to rebuild the team following a disasterous Euro 2016 campaign.

This is the amount Allardyce would have been paid during the final season of his contract at the Stadium of Light. It has, though, been slowed slightly by Sunderland’s desire to gain a little more than £2mn by way of recompense for the disruption caused to their transfer plans and pre-season preparations.

Jose Mourinho says Sam Allardyce is “more than ready” for the England job.

The FA board are now holding a meeting at Wembley, where the three-man selection panel – Martin Glenn, David Gill and Dan Ashworth – will state their case for Allardyce with the board expected to confirm that decision.

Moyes was on a coaching seminar in Jordan earlier this week, but he is eager to return to the dug-out after being out of work since being sacked by Spanish side Real Sociedad in November.

A person with knowledge of the situation on Wednesday said that the Football Association (FA) is close to finalizing Allardyce’s appointment. “Naturally we are aware of the intense media speculation this evening, however, at the present time Sam Allardyce remains Sunderland manager”, the club said in a statement. ‘I think he is the right person for that, I think he’s a good choice but I think he needs support and I think you can do better in respect to that.

“Sam never had the big chance at the highest level, lots of experiences in the Premier League, but never that big one”.

“I don’t think he will feel the pressure”, Davies said.

Merson said: “Too many times recently the players have run the team. I think he is a good motivator, I think he can create a good team spirit with his players and I wish him the best”.

“I never thought I would be able to play for him because he is too direct but he managed to find a way to accommodate me”. “But if you believe him, as I do, I think he can do that”.
