Sunderland survives in EPL, Newcastle and Norwich relegated
Sunderland manager Sam Allardyce is pressuring his players as they close in on a fourth consecutive late-season escape from relegation.

Sunderland’s 3-0 victory over Everton on Wednesday confirmed Newcastle’s demotion to the Championship alongside Norwich City and Aston Villa.
Their clinching win came on Wednesday, with Sunderland thrashing Everton, 3-0, and moving four points clear of the drop zone ahead of Sunday’s season finales.
“We became a team that was hard to beat, who did not like losing and continued the run constantly for the last few months”, Allardyce said.
“That’s proven to be the case because since the turn of the year our performances, and ultimately our results, have helped us go for a time undefeated and get us to safety with a game to go”.
Two of the five occasions Everton has scored 6+ goals in a Premier League game have come against Sunderland (7-1 in November 2007 and 6-2 in November 2015).
After stints at Bolton Wanderers, Blackburn Rovers and West Ham United as well as Newcastle, Allardyce was appointed by Sunderland in October when they were 19th in the table and without a league victory.
“This is the worst season we could have got relegated from the Premier League.
I think that’s the most important thing”, said Allardyce, who has never been relegated from England’s top-flight as a manager.
Kone put a stamp on Sunderland’s survival in the 55th minute when Robles failed to control the ball after another corner kick and the defender was in the right place to pounce on it and score. I know that each and every one of them has done whatever they could to help us out of the situation we now find ourselves in.
At the start of the year, I thought Everton were going to be a team that would go far but as we hit May it looks like another opportunity went missing for the Toffies and with that Roberto Martinez looks like he might just lose his job.
“Ipswich Town, we’re coming for you” sang the Norwich faithful, though, trying to take the positives.
The fight to feature in the Europa League final hots up for Liverpool players when Chelsea visit tomorrow.
“The draws eventually led to wins, that led us to getting safe with one game to go”.

“What we have in front of us now is the game against Norwich at home and want to make sure we get a performance that gives us a good feeling to finish the season off”.
