Sunny Leone’s Manforce condom ad: not preventing AIDS but ‘promoting rape’

Communist Party of India (CPI) leader Atul Anjan on Thursday apologised for the controversial statement that he made at a public rally in Uttar Pradesh, claiming that actor Sunny Leone’s condom advertisements promote rapes in the country.

He has since said he is not against condoms, but added “Sunny Leone’s ads are vulgar”, reported India Today.

CPI leader Atul Kumar said that watching Sunny leone develops your sexuality and kills your sensibility.

However, clearly she hasn’t been able to shake off the tag of “porn star” despite being part of several Bollywood films and item songs which have been moderately successful. “I apologise, but I dont stand for such ads”, Anjan said.

CPI leader Atul Anjan has demanded a ban on a condom advertisement featuring actress Sunney Leone, contending that the “disgusting and dirty” advertisement could lead to increase in rape incidents. Anjan also blamed Sunny Leone for the proliferation of porn in the country.

Making personal attacks against Sunny, he even went on to say that she can not be treated as a symbol of dignity.

” If you switch on the TV, there is a woman named Sunny Leone, she has been the heroine of films with most nudity”.

India has faced worldwide scrutiny over its problems with sexual violence and misogyny since the fatal 2012 gang rape of a young woman on a New Delhi bus.

Leone, 34, worked in adult films before she appeared in India’s biggest reality show Bigg Boss season 5. Months after a gang rape and hanging of two teenage girls, one senior minister said that rape was “sometimes right, sometimes wrong”. The actress responded on Twitter saying that the politicians should utilize their time and energy rather wasting them on her.
