Suns add Chandler, lock up Knight – CBS 5 – KPHO

The Clippers also expressed interest in Corey Brewer, but a source close to the veteran forward said the team’s primary financial tool in free agency barring Jordan signing elsewhere-the mini-midlevel exception of up to $3.37 million per year for as many as three years-would not be enough to entice him.

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports first reported the deal. The most likely scenario to land Aldridge would need to come through a sign-and-trade deal. Just hours later they brought him into a meeting in an attempt to attract an even larger fish to Phoenix.

Additionally, Chandler is simply a better player than Brandan Wright.

Chandler, 32, has averaged 8.8 points and 9.3 rebounds across his 14 National Basteball Association seasons. In other words, he is far from washed up.

Knight averaged 13.4 points after being traded to the Suns last season, but was limited to 11 games because of a left ankle injury. He won a championship with the Mavericks in 2011, and has been to the playoffs nine different times. The 32-year-old big man is exactly what this young, inexperienced Suns team needed.

On paper, $52 million seems like a lot.

If anything, the four years might be the less favorable part of this contract, but the Suns are renowned for their warlock training staff, which has prolonged the careers and health of numerous aging stars like Steve Nash and Grant Hill.

Chandler, 32, reportedly has a long-term deal with the Phoenix Suns that’ll keep the 7 foot 1 inch All-Star center playing into the 2018-19 season.

Truthfully, if Chandler struggles to stay healthy in his mid-thirties he may prove to be overpaid. He played two years for Detroit before heading to Milwaukee.
