Super Bowl: Cam goes dim postgame

The Denver Broncos’ defense never rested from start to finish in a 24-10 Super Bowl 50 win over the Carolina Panthers.

Miller, who was drafted at No. 2 overall behind first overall pick Cam Newton, got the better of his opponent, finishing the game with two-and-a-half sacks, two forced fumbles, and six tackles.

Manning and Newton have only met once before, in 2012 when the Broncos beat the Panthers, 36-14.

“I’ll take some time to reflect”, Manning said.

Did anyone come away with that impression after Super Bowl 50? Though the Panthers own much of the first half, with touchdowns by both Greg Olson and Ted Ginn, Jr., Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos more than make up for it in the latter half. The Panthers are winless in their two appearances in Super Bowls but figure to be a force in future seasons – as long as Newton performs as he did during the regular season. I’ve got a couple of priorities.

Manning shuffled to a podium in the bowels of Levi’s Stadium about 30 minutes after Denver finished off a 24-10 victory. “I’m going to drink a lot of Budweiser tonight, I promise you that”.

“They just played better than us I don’t know what you want me to say”, said Newton.

Miller is the 10th defensive player to ever win the award while becoming the second defensive player in the last three seasons to bring home the honors.

Manning completed 13 of 23 passes for 141 yards, with an interception. Heading into the fourth quarter, Miller was credited with 1.5 sacks, one pass deflection and one touchdown.

For the third straight National Football League season, the top seeds from the AFC and NFC have made the championship game.

So what: The Broncos (15-4) are champions and Manning is the first quarterback to win Super Bowls with two franchises, Indianapolis in 2007 was the other.

Von Miller, who was named Super Bowl MVP, twice stripped the ball from Newton, once for a touchdown, the second time setting up a clinching TD.
