Super Bowl champs find themselves scrambling for a QB

Tebow was released. He has floated around, landing for short periods with the New York Jets, New England Patriots, and Philadelphia Eagles, but has not lasted long with any of those teams.

The Denver Broncos acquired quarterback Mark Sanchez Friday from the Philadelphia Eagles for a conditional 2017 draft pick.

Bradford signed a two-year, $36 million pact with the Eagles prior to free agency and Osweiler spurned the Broncos for a four-year, $72 million deal from the Houston Texans on Wednesday.

Osweiler appeared in eight games with seven starts last season for the Super Bowl champion Broncos. They’ve talked with the San Francisco 49ers about a trade for Colin Kaepernick, but Kaepernick’s current contract doesn’t match the Broncos’ salary-cap room and would need significant adjustment.

A few weeks ago, Malik Jackson and Brock Osweiler bonded through a common goal with the Denver Broncos. Let’s also not pretend “Butt Fumbler” Mark Sanchez is the long-term answer. The Broncos, with one of the NFL’s strongest defenses, want their quarterback to protect the ball. Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports reported it is a conditional seventh round pick.

They’re the first to lose their top two quarterbacks and face this level of uncertainty.

Amid the exodus from Denver, Donald Stephenson couldn’t wait to join the Super Bowl champs.

The Denver Broncos are 3-5 in Super Bowls, meaning they get there a lot and they win it once in a while.

When asked what that meant for Sanchez, Pederson replied: “He could be the number three, but right now, we’re just evaluating that position as we do all the positions”.

It was early in his career, of course, in the first two years after the New York Jets used the fifth overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft on the former USC standout.

Yet general manager John Elway and the Broncos apparently liked what they saw in the 29-year-old Sanchez.

Osweiler spent his entire career as a backup to Peyton Manning, but started seven games in 2015 when Manning was dealing with a foot injury.

Saying Manning was good previous year just because Denver was the best team in the National Football League is a fallacy. The higher tender would have paid Anderson $2.355 million in 2016 or required another suitor to give them a second-round draft pick to pry him away.

In his first three seasons with Denver, Osweiler played in just 13 games, going 17-for-30 for just 159 yards and one touchdown. For the Eagles, he barely played past year as Sam Bradford’s backup, though he showed some flashes of brilliance as a part-time starter in the 2014 season.
