Super Eagles Invitee Joel Obi Out for a Week

Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi is still available for Nigeria duty despite not being involved since November, according to the player’s representative John Shittu.

“Mikel called Oliseh back, definitely not when the list was released, much more before that.” “We have no choice than to pool resources together and see how we can both help ourselves succeed in our different but complementary tasks“, Oliseh, who was the first to arrive, said. “The Head Coach has directed that the new players report to the Bolton White Hotels and Apartments in Abuja on Monday, August 24, 2015 with the other players retained”, Achor disclosed.

Nigerian football team head coach Sunday Oliseh says the constant change of players in the last one year had made it hard for the country to have a formidable squad.

“I was in England early this month and I put a call through to Mikel”. I sent him an sms, no reply.

“I called his Chelsea team-mate and compatriot [Victor] Moses and we met after the Community Shield”.

He told allnigeriasoccer.com: “I don’t know, I am not aware why he was not invited”.

The former Inter Milan midfielder is among 18 foreign-based professionals called up for a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier against Tanzania by Nigeria coach Sunday Oliseh.

Shittu insists Mikel has not been deliberately evasive.

“It’s unfortunate that a miscommunication is being blown out of proportion in the media”.
