Super Mario Maker DLC Update
The checkpoints are the iconic flags that can be found in games like New Super Mario Bros. This should make a few of those more punishing levels a little more manageable…or not, if players choose not to use them.

It’s a small update, but it’s worth far more than ten new types of Koopa Troopa.
The new update will also allow power-ups in item boxes to be dependent on Mario’s size, as they are in nearly every Mario game. What? Consider this: in a normal Mario level, you’d grab a power-up mushroom and, on subsequent power-up question mark blocks, you’d be offered a better power-up like a fire flower, a cape, etc. But in “Super Mario Maker”, subsequent question mark blocks with power-ups only contain whatever the level creator put in them. This one has sort of miffed me since the game’s launch, so it’s good to see.
Nintendo will also be adding in an area where you can find official levels. With 3.3 million maps already made, finding good ones can be tough. This forthcoming level, we’re told, was created at the Facebook headquarters in Menio Park and is the first Mario Maker Level in the U.S. made by an outside partner.
The other major update is the introduction of Event Courses to the game’s Course World online hub. “Facebook is the first outside partner in the United States to design a level for Super Mario Maker; employees had the opportunity to design and present their creations to a panel of judges before the winning level was selected”.
A Super Mario Maker update scheduled for release on November 5 will introduce the ability for creators to add mid-level checkpoints to courses, Nintendo has announced.

With the update applied, players can edit their existing Super Mario Maker levels to include checkpoint functionality or build entirely new creations with the feature built in.
