Super Mario Maker finally getting checkpoints in new update

Super Mario Maker” is the side-scrolling platform game construction system and video game, developed and published by Nintendo for the Wii U video game console and it is getting a software update in November.

The most welcome new feature is probably the addition of mid-level checkpoints, which let players restart from specific points in a level should they die.

Along with checkpoints, players can now sequence power-ups.

The update will introduce adaptable item boxes which dispense different items depending on the player’s state – so mushrooms if they’re a small Mario or a fire flower if they’re already big. Share your thoughts in the comments! Heads up, you’ll need to clear the level from the Checkpoint before uploading it, not just from the start.

Shortly after the update goes live, the level featured in the final round of Penny Arcade Expo’s Omegathon event will also be available to play. With new courses and updates, of course. If there’s one thing I’ve seen everyone complain about with Super Mario Maker, it’s the lack of checkpoints, and they are now being added.

Nintendo recently noted that a new update will roll out next week, which will feature new additions to “Super Mario Maker“. You’ll also be able to find a harder version of the Gnat Attack minigame by shaking a Muncher. This forthcoming level, we’re told, was created at the Facebook headquarters in Menio Park and is the first Mario Maker Level in the U.S. made by an outside partner. Meanwhile, Event Courses offer up creations from Nintendo’s partners and special guests; the first of them will be from Facebook, but it won’t be the last thanks to a regularly-updating list.
