Super Mario Run headed to iPhone and iPad this December

Super Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto made the announcement at the Apple event. Making use of the “endless runner” format of mobile games, Mario automatically runs towards the right, with players tapping on the lower part of the screen at any time to make him jump, in turn grabbing coins and power-ups and avoiding bad guys.

The statement came in an interview between himself and USA Today after he revealed Super Mario Run at an Apple event in San Fransisco, CA.

Despite this, Apple had something hidden in its stores for us-a three-decade-old Nintendo game franchise Super Mario Bros to debut on iPhone. He said that the new game would arrive on iOS first and added that anyone could pick it up and instantly start playing.

“iOS users will be able to download and enjoy a portion of Super Mario Run for free and will be able to enjoy all of the game content available in this release after paying a set purchase price”. Interestingly enough you can actually play Super Mario Run one-handed, and the game looks pretty spiffy from what we’ve seen so far. The longer you tap, the higher he jumps, which will be key in getting high scores. You can play it with one hand, Miyamoto pointed out. The game will also feature a new battle mode called Toad Rally, where a player can try to beat a high scorer.

This may not come as much of a surprise for some of you who saw that Nintendo announced a brand new mobile game during Apple’s Keynote earlier this week.

He said Super Mario had “evolved whenever he has encountered a new platform”. It will release the game in December in 100 different countries and nine languages.
